Open Cooperazione has published transparency data on Italian NGOs working in international cooperation and humanitarian aid.

Italian organizations are active in 119 countries of the world with 4.500 projects implemented (8% more than in 2021). Commitment is growing on the three hottest fronts for OSCs: emergency and humanitarian aid, health, and education are the areas of intervention that have recorded the strongest percentage increase. Abroad, the primacy of African countries is confirmed: Mozambique, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo remain the countries where NGOs carry out the most projects.

The number of Italian expatriate operators, the so-called cooperators, is on the rise, with 3011 registered in 2022, a 22% increase over the previous year.
