The World Day of People with Disabilities is celebrated worldwide on December 3rd, to draw the attention of world public opinion to the social inclusion of people with disabilities. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, adopted in 2006 and ratified by Italy, is the reference point for those who support initiatives aimed at promoting the human rights of people with disabilities so that everyone has the same opportunities to participate in social, cultural, and economic life, without any distinction.
Working for people with disabilities means promoting the rights of those who are the most vulnerable with the belief that no one, not even one, must be left behind. LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND and BREAK THE CYCLE! This year the theme adopted worldwide is “Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality“. In the same direction, The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), has adopted the “Guidelines for disability and social inclusion in cooperation interventions”.
